We’ll start our Porto Free Tour with an introduction to Porto, right to the liberal wars and why is there a heart in King Pedro IV statue. Your guide will take you outside Bookshop Lello, one of Porto’s gems and reveal how a famous young magician gave fame to this wonderful place.
We’ll venture into the Carmo and Carmelitas churches and admire the beautiful Clérigos tower, 76 meters-tall and with its 49 bells over the Clérigos church. We will learn about Porto’s narrowest building and a statue that many say was a warning of the dictator Salazar to Porto’s inhabitants.
In this Porto Free Walking Tour we can’t miss the São Bento train station, one of the most beautiful stations in the world and where we will be amazed by the over 20.000 blue and white tiles that depict Portugal’s history, which artist Jorge Colaço took over a decade to place. Speaking of scenic beauty, we will also take you to one of Porto’s most iconic viewpoints where we’ll see picturesque neighborhoods, the bridges and the Douro River below.
This Porto Walking Tour will end at the very heart of the city, the Cathedral, and the descent to the Ribeira district by the ancient neighborhood of Barredo. We will tell all about dishes like francesinha and tripes before finishing right at the bank of the Douro River, to admire the Eiffel Bridge of Dom Luís I while talking about the many cellars of Port Wine on the other side of the troubled waters.
